You’ll have an almost 1 in 2 chance of developing Alzheimer’s if you plan on living to be 85 or older, according to scientist Samuel Cohen.

Alzheimer’s care in the United States costs over 200 billion dollars every year (one out of every five medical dollars spent).  It’s a HUGE medical and social challenge for our generation.

I lost both my father and father-in-law to Alzheimer’s and it’s a terrible disease to have to deal with.  Although it may make you a bit sad, please watch Glen Campbell’s music video – I’m Not Gonna Miss You below.  When I watched this video, I found myself looking over at a picture of my dad and really wishing he was still around.

More than 40 million people worldwide suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to increase drastically in the coming years. But no real progress has been made in the fight against the disease since its classification more than 100 years ago. Scientist Samuel Cohen shares a new breakthrough in Alzheimer’s research from his lab as well as a message of hope. “Alzheimer’s is a disease,” Cohen says, “and we can cure it.”

Please watch Samuel Cohen’s short TED video entitled Alzheimer’s is Not Normal Aging – And We Can Cure It.
