Competitive Napping… For Real

If you live in a part of the US that observes Daylight Saving Time, you will likely be making a sleep adjustment this week.  No matter where you live, do the work on good sleep hygiene!  Sleep is critical in longevity and living a longer, healthier life. During sleep, the body undergoes vital repair processes, including cellular regeneration, immune system strengthening, and the process by which your brain organizes and solidifies memories, making them more stable and accessible in the future. So, while you’re resting, your brain and body continue to work more than you ever realized!

Our friends in Spain know the importance of sleep and take it seriously! The National Siesta Championship is a real competition just held in Spain, where sleep athletes battled it out for the ultimate prize: €1,000 for being the best at sleeping.  The rules are simple: competitors must achieve peak nap performance in just 20 minutes. Judges track factors like speed of falling asleep, quality of rest, and snoring style.
