May the 4th Be with You!

Yoda Vegan, Was He? Yoda’s diet in the Star Wars universe is mainly plant-based. This includes rootleaf stew, a dish he made for Luke Skywalker, as well as ingredients like yarum seeds, mushroom spores, and galla seeds.
There has been speculation about Yoda’s dietary preferences for years. While the franchise never states explicitly that his diet is vegan or vegetarian, some note that his glowing green complexion could only be powered by plants! Others claim that Yoda’s deep empathy with living beings aligns with some vegan philosophical perspectives.
In 1983, the launch of National Public Radio’s 10-part radio drama The Empire Strikes Back prompted NPR’s marketing team to hire chef and New York Times food editor Craig Claiborne to create his own version of “Yoda’s Rootleaf Stew”. The recipe features lamb, coriander, cumin, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, chile peppers, and a LOT of spinach and fresh parsley! That’s an earthy, powerful punch!

NPR’s commissioned recipe for Yoda’s stew was published in newspapers in 1983. Posted on reddit.com.
